The petition to the Government to overturn the decision to move the Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) Department from Sheffield to London has now topped the 5,000 mark.
The petition calls on the Government to reverse its closure decision and save the 247 jobs that will be lost to Sheffield through plans to move the Department from St Paul’s Place to London.
LabourSheffield says, ‘Our Council and our MPs have challenged this absurd decision since Day One. It will cost the government money to move to London. And on a Budget Day when the Chancellor demands more cuts it’s time to remind him of our opposition to this ludicrous policy.’
‘The Tory Northern Powerhouse idea sounds more of an empty promise with each passing week. Whether it’s funding, infrastructure, transport or jobs – it is always the same Tory response. Say one thing – do another.’
You can sign the petition here:
We’re hoping that we can take the total to 10,000 signatories and force the Government to respond to the consequences of this decision. Please share the petition link.
