LabourSheffield backs tax credits protest

Labour Councillors at Sheffield City Council have added their voice to calls for the Government to reverse in full the proposed reductions to tax credits.

Labour put in place a system of tax credits to help make sure work pays for those on low incomes. But now in Sheffield, 27,000 low and middle income families will see support reduce or disappear from next April if the Government press ahead with their plans.

Backing Labour Sheffield’s stance Councillor George Lindars-Hammond said:

‘The Tories are not the party of working people. They make life harder for them and their families by attacking this vital safety net.’

‘When he wanted our votes at the election David Cameron went on national television and said he wouldn’t cut tax credits. It’s a different story now.’
