Labour completed its General Election line-up in Sheffield this weekend when Sheffield Councillor and Deputy Leader of the Council Harry Harpham was chosen by members to represent Labour for the Brightside and Hillsborough seat.
Labour members were selecting a new candidate following the decision of current MP David Blunkett not to stand for Parliament at the next election.
Welcoming Harry to the Sheffield Labour 2015 General Election Team David Blunkett MP said,
“This, as you would expect, has been an extremely hard fought contest. The people of my beloved Brightside and Hillsborough, and Sheffield as a whole, need and deserve the best. My congratulations and wholehearted support go to Harry Harpham. I know that with renewed vigour, energy and commitment, Harry will build on what I have been able to achieve by working with the local community, and of course with the dedicated volunteer members of the Labour Party who are crucial to making democracy work.
I shall be giving every possible assistance in the next six months before the General Election to ensuring a smooth handover to Harry and above all, to persuading the electorate that putting their trust in Labour will be worthwhile in building on the progress we have already made but looking to a better future and improvement in the living standards and life chances of everyone in the constituency.
In the meantime, I will continue to give 100% to the people I care about.”
